Trash & audit log

Mistakes happen — a wrong tap, a duplicate, a second thought. Thrift treats a deleted transaction as recoverable, and keeps a record of changes so nothing is a mystery later.

Deleted transactions aren’t gone

When you delete a transaction it’s moved to Trash, not erased. It drops out of your totals and balances right away, but it’s held so you can bring it back.

Restoring

Restore a transaction from Trash and it returns exactly as it was — the same amount, category, and account, along with any links it carried (a restored investment transaction brings its linked event back with it). Balances and totals re-absorb it as if it never left.

The audit log

Alongside Trash, Thrift keeps an audit log — a running record of what changed and when. It’s there for the moments you look at a number and wonder how it got that way, so your book stays accountable to itself.

Good to know. Deleted transactions are recoverable from Trash. Some other records — a deleted category or budget, for instance — are removed outright, so take a little more care with those.
