Log in any currency and see everything in your base — using the right historical rate at the time of each transaction.
Spend across currencies and Thrift keeps one coherent picture: each amount in the currency you actually paid, and everything rolled up into a base currency you choose.
A base currency
You pick one base currency. Every total — spending, budgets, net worth — is expressed in it, so the whole app speaks one language no matter how many currencies your life touches.
Logging foreign amounts
Enter a transaction in its native currency and Thrift converts it to your base for the roll-ups, while keeping the original amount on the record. You see both: what you paid, and what it was worth to you.
Historical rates
Conversions use the exchange rate from the transaction’s own date, not today’s — so a purchase abroad last year is valued as it was then. Thrift fetches those rates when you’re online and caches them. The requests carry only currency codes and dates: never your amounts, never anything personal.
Switching your base currency
Change your base currency and Thrift re-expresses your stored values into the new one — it recalculates rather than just relabeling, so the numbers stay true.
When a rate isn’t available yet
Log a foreign amount offline and its base value is flagged as pending rather than guessed. It excludes itself from totals until the rate lands, then heals automatically next time you’re online — so a total is never quietly wrong.
