Investments & returns
Gold featureTrack holdings by what actually happened to them — buys, sells, dividends — and measure the real return with XIRR, not a guessed average.
Thrift tracks investments as a ledger of events rather than a single number you keep updating. That’s what lets it show a true return instead of an estimate.
An event ledger
Every action on a holding — a buy, a sell, a dividend, a fee — is recorded as an event with its date and amount. The holding’s current shape is derived from those events, so the history is always there behind the value, not overwritten by it.
Real returns with XIRR
Because Thrift knows the timing of every cash flow, it can compute XIRR — a money-weighted annual return that accounts for when you put money in and took it out. It’s the real number a simple “current value ÷ what I paid” can’t give you.
Allocation
See how you’re split across your holdings and asset classes, so concentration is visible at a glance rather than something you have to work out.
Asset classes
Every holding belongs to an asset class — stocks, bonds, cash, crypto, and the like — and that’s what the allocation view groups by, so you see how you’re spread across kinds of investment, not just individual holdings. Thrift ships with a set of common classes to start from and lets you add your own, so the breakdown reflects how you actually think about your portfolio.
Auto-invest
A recurring rule can fund a holding on a schedule — a regular contribution. When it fires, Thrift records both the cash leaving your account and the buy, so the money movement shows in your transaction list like any other. See Recurring bills & income.
Broker sync
Optionally link a brokerage or exchange to keep a holding’s value current. The connection fetches data straight to your device — your credentials and balances are never sent to Thrift.
Note. Broker sync currently values accounts in USD. Everything else here works in any currency.
