Manual entry, splits & tags

Type a transaction precisely, split one purchase across categories, and tag anything for views that cut across your budget.

Voice and receipts are the fast paths, but typing is the precise one — and it’s where splits and tags live. This guide covers logging by hand, moving money between your own accounts, splitting a single purchase, and tagging.

Typing a transaction

From the add screen, an entry needs three things: an amount, a category, and an account. Everything else is optional:

  • Date — defaults to today; change it for a back-dated entry.
  • Note — a line of context for future you.
  • Type — expense, income, or transfer.

Tap any transaction in the list to edit it directly — there’s no separate detail screen to open first.

Transfers between accounts

Moving money between two of your own accounts — checking to savings, cash to a card — is a transfer, not spending. Transfers are excluded from expense totals and budgets, so shifting your own money never looks like a cost.

Splitting across categories

One receipt often covers more than one thing — groceries and a bit of household. A split lets a single transaction carry several categories, each with its own amount, so the money lands where it really went instead of being forced into one bucket. The parts always add up to the total.

Tags

Categories answer “what kind of spending”; tags answer everything else. Add one or more tags to a transaction — vacation, reimbursable, tax — and later filter or search by them to see a total that cuts across categories and months.

Tip. Merchant rules can pre-fill the category when you type a merchant you log often, so manual entry gets faster the more you use it.
